Why UK and Istanbul Clinics Quote Differently

The gap between two quotes is rarely one thing. What actually sits behind the difference, and which parts of it you are allowed to ask about.

The Difference Is Structural Before It Is Anything Else

Operating costs, staffing costs, property and the price of everything a hospital consumes differ between countries, and surgery is a labour-heavy service. That is the largest part of the gap and it is not a comment on quality in either direction.

It is also the part nobody can negotiate. What you can examine is the second part of the gap: what each quote actually contains.

Two Quotes Are Rarely Describing the Same Thing

One may include the hospital, the anaesthetist, the implant, the hotel and a translator. Another may include the surgeon's fee and leave the rest to be discovered. Both are honest documents if they are read properly; the problem is that they are usually compared as totals.

Rewrite both as a list of lines before you compare them. The exercise takes ten minutes and it frequently changes which one is cheaper.

What Travel Adds That a Quote Does Not Show

Flights, the days you are not working, someone travelling with you, and the possibility of a longer stay than planned. None of these belong to the clinic and all of them belong to your decision.

A clinic that tells you what to budget for outside its own quote is not trying to look cheap. A clinic that answers that question plainly is not trying to look cheap.

Where a Low Price Becomes a Question

A price that sits far below every other offer is worth asking about rather than dismissing. Ask what is different about it: shorter stay, no hotel, a different hospital, a surgeon earlier in their career, or fewer follow-up appointments.

There may be a reasonable answer. The point is to have it in writing before you decide, rather than to guess in either direction.

What Should Never Be Priced

The examination that decides your plan, and the right to be told no. If either of those appears to depend on what you have already paid, the structure is wrong regardless of the number.

Reading the Deposit Terms

Ask what the deposit secures, what happens to it if the surgeon changes the plan, and what happens if you cannot travel. Ask it before you send anything, because afterwards you are negotiating rather than asking.

Get the answer in writing. Not because anyone is dishonest, but because coordinators change and messages get lost.

Not treatment advice. Every plan is decided by an examination, not by an article.
