Why the Honest Answer Is a Range Decided Later
Recovery depends on the operation, on you, and on what your job asks of your body. Anyone giving you a precise figure before examining you is giving you a marketing number.
That is not evasion. It is the same answer you would get from a surgeon at home.
Your Job Is Part of the Assessment
Sitting at a desk, standing all day, lifting, driving, and working alone are all different questions. Bring this up in the consultation rather than afterwards.
Ask specifically about driving, because insurance at home may have a view about it and your clinic will not know your policy.
Plan the First Week, Decide the Second
Arrange cover for the period everyone agrees on, and keep the following week flexible if you can. Most disappointment comes from having promised to be somewhere too early.
If your work requires a fit note or documentation, ask what the clinic can provide and in what language.
Telling Your Employer, or Not
You are not obliged to explain a medical absence in detail. If your workplace requires documentation, ask the clinic before you travel what they routinely issue.
Getting that while you are still there is far easier than requesting it by email afterwards.
What Would Extend It
Ask what the clinic considers a normal course and what would count as a reason to rest longer. You are not asking for a promise; you are asking what to watch for.
